ITA D1 format
ITA DI format is as follows:
Match:
3 doubles followed by 6 singles; 7 team points. Team winning 2 of 3 doubles matches will receive 1 point; each singles match counts as 1 point.
Doubles:
No warm-up time; 6-game pro set with No-Ad scoring; first team to win 6 games by 2 games with a 7-point tiebreak played at 6 games all. Once the doubles point has been clinched, any remaining doubles play will be abandoned.
Singles:
No warm-up time; Best of 3 tiebreak sets with No-Ad scoring; 7-point tiebreak played at 6 games all. Once the outcome of the team match has been decided, a shortened format shall be played unless both coaches agree otherwise. Any remaining singles matches that have NOT started a 3rd set should play a 10-point tiebreak in lieu of a third set.
NOTE:
Obviously the exception to the above will be cases where tournament or conference rules dictate otherwise (such as Kickoff Weekend, where the format is clinch-clinch).
Coin toss:
In a dual match the coin toss is done on each court when matches are chaired, when matches aren't chaired, players are to spin their rackets.
Balls:
DI policy for dual matches is 4 balls for doubles and 1 can per set for singles. No new balls shall be given when playing a 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set in singles. The ITA rules committee will review this policy (in particular for doubles dual matches now that we are playing 6 game sets) for 2016-17.
Match Length Reporting:
We will still be collecting DI match length data this season. We have an updated (much shorter) form for the Referee to complete post match.
